About The Gallery

Throughout its thirty-eight year history Ambleside has maintained a reputation for the high artistic standard of its offerings and its commitment to the community it serves. The gallery beckons visitors to enter a world infused with aesthetic grace. Hand-milled cherry wood arches separate each of the exhibition areas.  Faux painted walls and a rich burgundy carpet help to set the stage for a continuously changing display of art and sculpture by artists of extraordinary talent.

Ambleside Gallery is privileged to represent more than thirty painters, sculptors and, on occasion, photographers from the US, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, China and Japan. China’s most revered and renowned watercolorist, Guan Weixing, is exclusively represented in the United States by Ambleside Gallery.

We encourage guests to enjoy our exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and seminars, as well as the wide variety of cultural performances that are presented in the gallery from time to time. The Gallery space is also available for private events. Gourmet catering can be provided. Contact us for more information.

Some History

Ambleside Fine Arts was founded in Manchester, England in 1982 by Jackson Mayshark.

In 1994 Ambleside Fine Arts moved to Grosse Pointe, Michigan where it established its first brick and mortar gallery. In Grosse Pointe, the gallery exhibited and showcased its unique collection of British art.

During the course of the next nine years the gallery acquired many new artists, presented more than fifty exhibitions, hosted dozens of special events and assisted in the organizing and running of the local Arts Council.

In the summer of 2003, Ambleside Gallery moved to Greensboro, North Carolina.

By the spring of 2004 an ideal location was found in the historic district of downtown Greensboro.  At home in the company of antique shops, theaters, book stores, restaurants and other galleries, Ambleside Gallery has become a cornerstone of artistic excellence in the area.
